Katelyn Ciarelli attended Huntington Beach High School where she placed 6th in the discus at the 2003 California State Meet. She went on to Long Beach State, where she recently graduated with a degree in sociology. In 2006, she was the Big West Conference Champion in the discus and scored 19-points in the discus, hammer, and javelin to help the 49’ers to a 3rd place team finish. After red-shirting in 2007, in 2008 Katelyn threw a discus PR of 171’ 5 ¾” (52.26m), repeated as Big West Conference Champion, and qualified for the NCAA Championships. She is coached and mentored by her father, Tony Ciarelli—one of our VSA coaches who is among the preeminent throws coaches in America. Katelyn contributed 22-points to the VSA Women's 2nd place at the 2008 National Club Championships by placing in all four throwing events: Hammer (7th), Javelin (4th), Discus (1st), and Shot Put (4th).
